CPU Cores | 16 |
CPU Threads | 32 |
L3 Cache | 72 MB |
Clock Speed | Up to 4.7 GHz |
Whenever we talk about the best processor for video editors, Ryzen 9 3950X comes to our mind without any exception. This CPU is packed with enough cores and threads to give you a lag-free video editing experience in your Studio. We tested this CPU with professional video editing software like Adobe Premiere with settings at 4K, and it hasn't felt any load while rendering the clips.
With 12 cores and 32 threads, this processor is a beast in content editing. The thing that makes this CPU superfast is the 72 MB L3 cache, which is something you don't find on expensive CPUs from Intel. Also higher clock speed makes a processor stand out in video editing, and Ryzen 9 3950X stands out in this case with a clock speed up to 4.7GHz.
Thanks to the premium specs, the Ryzen 9 3950X would be a great deal for you if you want to edit videos at higher resolutions. Even you can push the limits of this processor by editing videos at 8K. And we are quite sure, it won't bottleneck in that case as well.
Even though this CPU is not for low-budget geeks, it still isn't far beyond the reach of everyone as well. Especially if you compare it with the video editing processors from the Intel line-up. Considering its outstanding performance, Ryzen 9 3950X worths each penny you pay for it.
This is more of a multi-tasking processor to have in your PC. You can edit videos and carry on to your other tasks at the same time. If performance really matters to you, 3950X would be your final bet at this point.
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | Best Valued Ryzen CPU for Content Editors
CPU Cores | 8 |
CPU Threads | 16 |
L3 Cache | 36 MB |
Clock Speed | 4.7 GHz |
Like we've said earlier, the Ryzen 7 series has been praised by many professional video editors for its reliable performance. And Ryzen 7 5800X is a processor that steals the show with its ideal performance in editing videos on Adobe Priemiere Pro and other professional applications.
This Ryzen processor comes with 8 cores and 16 threads, half than that of the Ryzen 9 3950X. However, we didn't noticed much of a difference while rendering videos on this CPU. It might be the fact that both CPUs have a clock speed of 4.7 GHz, which is the most responsible factor behind faster redering speed.
Despite its abundant cores and threads, the Ryzen 7 5800X comes with AMD "Zen 3" AMD "Zen 3" architecture that makes it stand out in intense video editing tasks. This processor is a budget-friendly option for those who want to create videos for YouTube.
The Ryzen 7 5800X CPU is really great at single-core performance when compared with its siblings. For faster rendering, single-core performance is something you cannot ignore in a CPU. The only downside that we've noticed so far is the absence of a CPU cooler in the box. Other than that, this CPU offers the best value in editing videos at an affordable price.
AMD Ryzen 5 3600X | Best-Rated Ryzen Processor for Editing Content
CPU Cores | 6 |
CPU Threads | 12 |
L3 Cache | 35 MB |
Clock Speed | 4.2 GHz |
Yes, this is the Ryzen CPU that not excels in gaming but also in content editing. The Ryzen 5 3600X is one of our favorite CPUs to deal with all kinds of tasks. No matter whatever task you throw onto this processor, it will never regret you.
The Ryzen 5 3600X comes with 6/12 cores and threads to care for video editing tasks. We tested Ryzen 5 3600X for editing videos at 1080p resolution, and it was a lag-free super-fast experience. However, when we scaled the resolution up to 4K, it took some time to render videos. For example, if the 3950X takes 1 minute to render a 4K clip, the 3600X takes almost 2.5 minutes to do that.
Well, this is might be due to the fact that it has fewer cores and less clock speed than that of the most powerful Ryzen video editing processor, the 3950X. But even at 4.2 GHz and 35MB of cache, there isn't much of a difference in speed at which this processor renders a specific video.
So this CPU handles simple video editing tasks without any problem. If you want to edit videos for your YouTube channel, you can go for this CPU. It is one of the cheaper chips on the market that outperforms high-end CPUs like the 9900K. For tech-savvy people, this Ryzen CPU might be the ultimate choice in video editing.
AMD Ryzen 5 2600X | Budget-Friendly Ryzen CPU for 1080p Video Editing
CPU Cores | 6 |
CPU Threads | 12 |
L3 Cache | 19 MB |
Clock Speed | 4.2 GHz |
Ryzen 5 2600X is one of the oldest CPUs in the market. Also, it is one of the CPUs from AMD that given a tough time to many high-end Intel CPUs in gaming and content creation. Although this CPU isn't a good match for other high-performance processors on our list, it holds an important spot due to its decent specs and lower price.
We start with the 6 cores and 12 threads of this CPU. At least if we really don't care about the rendering time, the Ryzen 5 2600X would be good enough to handle intense video editing tasks. We tested the Ryzen 5 2600X to edit a 1080p video clip on Adobe Premiere Pro. Moreover, the 4.2 GHz clock speed on this CPU is good enough to handle video editing tasks by all means.
To be honest, we haven't noticed any delays at all. Although it took a bit more to render the video clip, we weren't in a hurry at all to find our video export file. But when we pushed the resolution to 4K, this CPU took longer than we expected. So if 4K video editing is not your concern at all, you can pick this low-budget Ryzen processor right away.
It's a CPU truly meant for light and simple video editing tasks only. For more intense video editing, you should consider Ryzen 9 3950X or Ryzen 7 5800X. For YouTube content creators, this low-budget Ryzen processor is no less than a blessing.
Ryzen 3 3200G | Cheapest Ryzen Processor for Rendering
CPU Cores | 4 |
CPU Threads | 8 |
L3 Cache | 6 MB |
Clock Speed | 3.6 GHz |
Ryzen 3 3200G is truly meant for those who do not care about rendering times. This CPU has 4 cores and 8 threads to tackle light video editing tasks. This chip more of an APU, which means it has a built-in GPU to take care of video effects and animations as well.
The Ryzen 3 3200G comes with a 3.6 GHz clock speed which is good enough to render videos and edit other forms of content in few minutes. However, the only thing that makes this CPU a little slower than others on our list is the L3 cache. With just a 6MB cache, this CPU requires patience when it comes to editing videos on higher resolution.
We tested this processor with Final Cut Pro X, and it took a while to render video clips at 1080p resolution. But for such a lower price, we can get along with the slow rendering time. But if you use more ram, you can edit videos at a higher resolution. So if you are a person who just needs to give a light retouch to videos and animations, this Ryzen CPU is the cheapest option to go for.
Factors That Make a Processor Stand Out in Video Editing
It is important to know about the factors that make a CPU faster in video editing. So here are some key points to keep in mind before purchasing your CPU.
Cores/Threads
More the cores and threads of a CPU better would be the performance of that CPU in editing content. We recommend you choose a processor that has at least 4 cores and 8 threads. The cores of a CPU affect the video rendering times, encoding clips into different formats, etc. For ideal performance, a CPU with six-core and multiple threads would be good enough to fulfill all your video editing requirements.
CPU Clock
The Clock speed of a processor matters a lot in video editing. More clock speed less time to add special effects and animations to your videos. Also, more clock speed makes a CPU more responsive when editing videos on professional applications like Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro X.
If you want to edit your videos in 4K quality, you will need more clock speed as well. You can also overclock your CPU to get an advantage in video editing. Nearly all the CPUs on our list can be overclocked by using affordable after CPU coolers.
Look for APU Instead of CPU
This is why we prefer Ryzen CPUs in video editing. Most of these processors have a built-in GPU to take care of video effects and animations. Something that we really miss out in the expensive CPUs from Intel. A built-in GPU gives you more edge when using software like Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects that need a GPU at some point to fasten the video editing process.
