Video Game Tycoon Gold Edition License Id and Password
The number of
times the question cycles in about having game designs and who to talk to
borders on silly. Many think it is easy, and are not aware of the nuances of the
job. They play games and think it is only a matter of telling the computer what
to do and it does the rest.
There is little
thought given to the depth of creation.
Well, unless
you count what GAMESweet Software is trying to accomplish with its latest
release.
Video Game
Tycoon Gold Edition tosses its hat into the ring with the rest of the tycoon
titles only this one is a wee bit different. The program does not ask you to
build a studio and then micro-manage the development and release of games. Oh no
… what this program allows you to do is to build your own rudimentary arcade
titles, then either save them and play them on your PC, or burn them to a CD and
then try to impress your friends with your creative bent in the realm of video
games.
This is a
creation program, much more than it is a progressive game. You create the
platform-type games, determine the number of levels and difficulty, and use the
palette of environments, characters as well as the reward scheme to create your
own game.
How easy is it?
On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being very hard), make it about a 4-5. The game does
have tutorials to walk 'programmers' through the mechanics of what is here and
on the surface it does look easy. And, if you are creating a game like the first
tutorial – an arcade "collect the candy" type game – it can be relatively
simple. It is only when you try to create something a little more complex that
the game takes on more difficult dimensions.
And playing the
games you create will require that you learn some new control schemes. The
aforementioned T-Rex Candy Hunt title was a bit laborious when it came to the
controls, and required opening up options to find out exactly what the
appropriate keystrokes would be.
The game comes
in two SKUs – Gold Edition and Diamond Edition. What's the difference? The color
scheme. The Gold Edition has a blue theme, and the Diamond Edition has a purple
scheme.
There are eight
sample games included in the program and four tutorials. The game also has a
reward tier. Create a game, add new features, and receive a design award that
will go toward unlocking new features.
When you launch
the program you are faced with several choices (play, tutorial or build), one of
which is to build your game. There are eight categories of games, and when you
launch the build mode, the fun begins. The Game Editor interface will allow
players to customize levels, sky, terrain, players, objects and HUD. You can
alter the number of levels, outline the objectives, input intro text and even
program cheats. There are 17 .wav music tracks to select from (and yes, you can
go with none) and games can have up to 20 levels.
The camera
controls can be a little different, with the right mouse button zooming all the
way in one time you hold it down and then all the way out the next.
The program
does not come with an instruction manual, which may have been helpful. Instead
there are in-game tutorials and a narrative.
The graphics
are rudimentary and tend toward the sprites of the mid-90s and the default music
can be downright annoying. There are minor load times as well.
Video Game
Tycoon Gold Edition is a program that younger players may enjoy, along with the
challenge of creating a game. For the older gamer, there are more adult-driven
programs on the market that accomplish the same thing. This is the type of game
that would appeal to the younger set but only if they had adult help there, if
necessary.
Gameplay:
6.0
The game does have
some load times, but they are not that big. This is not a game, per se, but a
design program that will allow users to play their creations. There is replay
value here
Graphics:
6.0
Serviceable but old
school.
Sound: 5.5
The music is
strictly elevator; and the tutorial voice is fine but both can start to grate on
the nerves a bit within 15 minutes.
Difficulty:
Medium
There is a learning
curve here, and younger gamers would benefit from having an older person around
to help.
Concept: 6.3
The use of the word
"tycoon" in the program's title is deceptive, considering the number of tycoon
games. This is more of a design program, and a rudimentary, or introductory one
at that.
Multiplayer:
6.0
There is the ability
to create multiplayer games.
Overall: 6.0
The impression that
this is a game would be easy to get judging from the title. While the created
games can be played, this is very much geared to designing arcade-style games.
The audio and graphics are dated. This would be a decent entry point, though,
for anyone who wants to see what designing games is about. If you only want to
play games, might want to steer clear of this title.
